Mississippi Home Corporation to Host Financial Health Workshop

Professionals Available to Offer Free Advice to Mississippians

Cleveland , MS —Area residents will have the opportunity to take advantage of free, professional financial advice at a workshop hosted by the Mississippi Home Corporation, Consumer Credit Counseling Services, Mississippi Action for Community Education, Enterprise Corporation of the Delta, Tunica County Community Development Corporation, and Housing Education and Economic Development.  The event will be held at the Delta State University Center for Community and Economic Development, 1417 College Street in Cleveland on Thursday, August 28, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.

Counselors will be on hand to answer questions about mortgages, refinancing, budgeting, and credit scores.  Attendees are encouraged to bring as much information as possible relating to their specific questions, especially any correspondence with their lender if they’re interested in learning more about refinancing their mortgage.

“In tough economic times, it’s important to get sound, reliable financial advice,” observed Dr. Ben Mokry, Senior Vice President of Research and Development at MHC.  “This workshop will allow Mississippians to bring their questions to trained professionals free of charge,” he added.

Consumer Credit Counseling Services has co-hosted events like this one in the past, explained Julie McAdory, Mississippi Education Director with CCCS.  “The value of these workshops comes from having professionals from different agencies come together in one place.  The central location provides the perfect forum for people seeking guidance on financial matters,” said McAdory.

Dr. Mokry went on to explain that ignoring financial difficulties can often make them worse.  “People need to understand that these counselors can help them in ways they can’t help themselves.  By taking advantage of the free help on offer at the workshop, Mississippians can hopefully find solutions that will ensure their long-term economic health.  In a way, this is like a free doctor’s appointment for your finances.”

For more information on the financial health workshops, how to contact an approved counseling agency parties should contact MHC directly at 601.718.INFO (4636) or at www.mshomecorp.com.

The Mississippi Home Corporation was created by the State in 1989 to serve as the State’s Housing Finance Agency.  In that capacity, MHC administers the Mortgage Revenue Bond program and the Housing Tax Credit program, among others.  MHC’s mission is to enhance Mississippi's long-term economic viability by financing safe, decent, affordable housing and helping working families build wealth.
